About Wakefield Homestead

When we welcome you and your loved ones to Wakefield Homestead, we welcome you to our home.

We provide a quality lifestyle for our residents in a caring and supportive environment. We encourage them to maintain their independence in a safe, comfortable care setting, and to remain connected to the community.

All our residents are treated as individuals, and shown patience, dignity and respect.

Our rest home and care facility

Wakefield Homestead is a 23-bed rest home situated 30km south of Nelson, at 10 Edward Street, in the rural village of Wakefield. Tucked in behind the Wakefield medical Centre, we are only a few minutes from the local village.

Surrounded by gardens, the Homestead also looks out onto the beautiful Faulkner’s Bush Scenic Reserve, where there are lovely walks through native bush.

We provide level 1 and 2 rest home care, respite care and day stay options. For early stage dementia patients, we can provide care for people who do not wander or display aggressive behaviour.

We hold contracts with Whaikaha / Ministry of Disabled People and Te Whatu Ora / Health New Zealand meaning we can provide care for young people (under 65) with long term disabilities, or a chronic illness that prevents them living at home.

All our fees are set by the government and we don’t charge anything extra for private paying residents. There are no extra charges for premium rooms or other services, and wifi is provided free of charge.

Our family caring for your family

Our team of caring and dedicated staff are here to make a positive difference in our resident’s daily lives.

All our staff have a wide range of health and wellbeing experience, and are trained, or undergoing training, in the Te Pūkenga Career Force Training programme. They are encouraged to gain knowledge not just in elder care, but all aspects of support and care.

Rooms

Our rooms are fully furnished, but can be personalised by residents with their own furniture and belongings. All rooms have their own vanities, with toilets and showers just across the hallway from the bedrooms.

Meals

All daily meals are provided to a high standard by our Chef, who sources the best, fresh produce and ingredients from throughout the local community.

We also provide a local Meals on Wheels service. Find out more.

We look upon ageing as a natural process, not a condition to be managed clinically.

Activities and Recreation

We provide an extensive activities programme, under the guidance of our Activities Coordinator.

There are outings every Friday, and shopping trips to Richmond can be arranged. All residents are encouraged to join in.

Our big lounge is a great space for activities and socialisation. It has a log burner for warmth and ambience in Winter, and lots of room for fun and games like indoor bowls, movie nights, or just to chat with the other residents over a cup of tea.

Pets

Pets are allowed at Wakefield Homestead, as long as residents are capable of taking good care of them. We currently have several pets in residence.
